IRF 2030 STRATEGIC PLAN

Our Strategic Plan is framed around three pillars and four goals, which provide the context and focus for all of our activities to deliver on the Global Biodiversity Framework and its Target 3 (30 x 30 agenda).

MISSION

To develop, advance and promote the ranger profession throughout the global community, as well as its critical role in the conservation of natural and cultural resources.

VISION

The International Ranger Federation (IRF) envisions by 2030, a world where rangers are recognised, valued, respected, and supported as key guardians of our planet’s natural and cultural heritage. Through our shared commitment and collective action, we seek to build a future where the diverse ranger workforce has the conditions, capacity, and resources to carry out their vital work in a safe and supportive environment. Our vision is of a world where rangers as professionals, work in close collaboration with governments, local communities, indigenous peoples, and other stakeholders in an accountable manner, to safeguard our heritage for society and future generations.

OUR CHALLENGE

The work of rangers globally has never been more important. Rangers play an indispensable role in protecting natural resources, cultural heritage and proving ecosystem services. Their work significantly contributes to climate change adaption and mitigation strategies, prevents biodiversity loss, and helps to meet global sustainable development goals.

Compared to other professions, rangers are disproportionately responsible for protecting our planet’s land, marine and seascapes. They are tasked with operating in some of the world’s most remote and challenging environments, yet they are continually overlooked, under-resourced and undervalued.

Strengthening the global ranger community is imperative for developing confident and resilient rangers, capable of effectively protecting our planet for years to come.

OUR FUTURE

We know the aspirations of the global ranger workforce and we are committed to advancing the ranger profession through communication, building capacity, sharing best practices and learning from one another.

Over the next five years, we need to take bold actions to support rangers to reach their full potential following our 2030 Strategic Plan. Our actions will focus on:
