Capacity Building

The IRF is dedicated to raising the professional standards of rangers through training.

The IRF promotes training in 8 key areas

  1. Basic ecology and conservation
  2. Resource protection
  3. Interpretation, education and information
  4. Community and stakeholder relations
  5. Technology and infrastructure maintenance
  6. Emergency response
  7. Operational planning, and office, project and financial management
  8. Workplace communications and relations

Ranger training is provided by a range of organisations, including Equipe de Conservação da Amazônia (ECAM) in Brazil and the PAMS Foundation in Tanzania.

Well-trained, motivated and properly equipped rangers are vital to the protection of parks and other precious natural and cultural areas.
